How to Trap an Aggressive Poker Player
How to Trap an Aggressive Poker Player
Trapping aggressive Internet Poker players is one of the best ways to make some quick money on the poker table and you need to take advantage of the aggression from certain players. At every table there will always be one or two players who always raise the pot and nine times out of ten they have nothing.
In order to trap an aggressive poker player on FullTiltPoker.com you don’t always need a hand and you can trap them by bluffing them as well. It’s obviously a lot better and safer if you have a hand, but it’s not necessary when trapping an aggressive player. Aggressive poker players live off of betting pots and stealing them, but when they get raised they will most likely fold unless they happened to hit a hand.
When an aggressive player comes out and raises the blinds on you and you want to trap them then you should make a flat call. Generally the aggressive player will come out and make a continuation bet after the flop in order to take down the pot. If you don’t have anything, but want to take a stab at the pot then you should raise the pot and typically you’ll take it down there.
If you have a hand then you could continue trapping the player and only flat calling there continuation bet. Sometimes the aggressive player will slow down on the turn and check it to you, but sometimes they’ll continue throwing money at you. It’s a great idea to continue trapping them, but make sure you can’t lose the hand by being outdrawn on a flush or straight. You don’t want to slow-play it too much on a site like www.PokerStars.com that the player has the chance to catch a hand and beat you.
There is a fine line between trapping the player and letting them steal the pot from you. I usually advise that you take the pot down on the flop or turn unless you have the nuts. If you have the nuts then allow the aggressive player the chance to bet into you right until the river and then make a raise at the last possible opportunity. If you don’t have the nuts then I recommend making the raise on the flop or turn and taking down the pot.
Aggressive players on Full Tilt Poker like winning pots with aggression and by making people fold there hands. They don’t like getting involved in showdowns and the main reason is because nine times out of ten they don’t have anything. When you raise them after they bet they will always fold unless they have a good hand or excellent draw. If you raise enough then they won’t call on a draw and you’ll win the pot. The idea is to allow the aggressive player to lead out betting and then you raise them. This way you can get there initial bet plus what’s in the pot already if they fold. You won’t always be able to trap aggressive players as sometimes they may hands, so don’t always assume they have nothing. If there betting more then usual then they most likely have a good hand and you should be careful.
